Those accustomed to drinking water provided by a municipal source may give rare thought to the quality of water they drink. When you are able to provide your own water source with a private well, much more consideration needs to be given to the safety of your water chemistry. Without the extensive treatment facilities mandated by law for public water supplies, the quality of water in your well may be an unexpected and unpleasant surprise.

As a private well owner the allowed amounts of contaminants in the water can be different from those in a public water source, but the final determination as to what is applicable to the quality of your water is often yours to make. It is also important to keep in mind new and upcoming standards for water quality, in order to assure that real estate transactions in the future go as smoothly as possible.

Even if the amounts of contamination in the water are within federal and state guidelines, a prospective buyer may have his or her own conditions which must be met. The following information will give you some basic information about the types of water conditions we see most commonly, and what methods we would recommend to treat them.
